Spring has arrived and March is delivering stellar days of surf fishing along the Space Coast. Great catches of Pompano, Whiting, Black Drum and Spanish mackerel have surf fishing anglers lining the beaches from Cocoa Beach to Melbourne Beach south to Sebastian Inlet, Florida.
Pompano fishing the surf in the Space Coast of Florida comes with electricity that has residents and visitors fired up to get out on the Florida beaches in droves. Rewarding those who get out during optimal weather periods in-between low pressure frontal systems provide the most opportunistic time to wage a surf fishing expedition. Sand fleas, Shrimp, and Fishbites rigged on a dropper loop pompano rig has been the primary baits of choice for Pompano, Whiting, and Black Drum. While targeting the crustacean feeding species with the pompano rigs and surf rods try to diversify your catch by having smaller spinning reel with a light/medium action rod combination for targeting Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish. These predatory species are occupying the Florida Central East Coast waters feeding on baitfish in the surf. Casting a silver spoon or gotcha lure retrieved rapidly will increase your opportunity to hook into these toothy hard fighting fish. Look for March to continue to be productive for Brevard County surf fishing anglers with ideal water temperatures, light winds and minimal swell in the forecast. Get out to a beach near you to experience a bountiful time of year for surf fishing.
